Surgery
The surgery that Maisie needs is called Occipitocervical Fusion, it is the fusion of the C0 to T3.

It is a complicated and long surgery with many risks involved. The Surgery could take 8-12 hours to complete.
​
Maisie must arrive in Spain about 3 days before surgery takes place as she will need pre surgery testing
​
The material used in the fusion is made of titanium, titanium alloy, jazz bands and donor bone.
After Surgery
After Surgery Maisie will spend 2 days in ICU and will spend 24 hours in an induced coma. After those 2 days Maisie will be moved to a room and will stay there until she is deemed well enough to be discharged.
We will stay in a hotel close to the hospital until she is deemed fit to fly home, we are expected to have to stay in Barcelona for 4-6 weeks.
Once we are home we will continue rehabilitation, which will also be a long journey for her to get through.

After surgery Maisie will have limited mobility in her neck and will most likely need physiotherapy to get used to her lack of mobility.

Maisie's surgery will take place in Teknon Medical Centre in Barcelona.
